General Waste Tips
- Use the Australasian Recycling Label to check recyclability.
- Download waste apps like Port Stephens Council Waste App or RecycleMate.
- Wash bins regularly & store them in a shaded area to prevent odours.
- Flatten cardboard before recycling.
- Scrunch aluminium foil into a ball (tennis ball size or larger) before placing it in recycling.
Reducing Landfill Waste
- Sell, donate, or repurpose good-condition items through:
- Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, Garage Sale Trail, or local charities.
- Use alternative recycling programs:
- H&M & Zara – Clothing recycling bins
- TreadLightly – Jogger & runner shoe recycling
- UPPAREL – Home textile recycling collection service
Food Waste Reduction
- NSW EPA Love Food Hate Waste
- Plan meals & check the fridge before shopping.
- Use ShareWaste to connect with composting neighbours.
- Freeze food scraps like prawn shells until bin day to reduce smells.
