RMS reviews speeds on Port Stephens roads

After a recent review of speed zones in Port Stephens, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) have determined the below roads warrant a reduction in speed. This reduction aims to improve road user safety and reduce the potential of road trauma.

  • Clarence Town Road from Woodville to Seaham — current speed 100km/h, new speed 80km/h
  • Butterwick Road, Butterwick from Clarence Town Road to 3km north — current speed 100km/h, new speed 80km/h
  • Croft Road, Brandy Hill — current speed 100km/h, new speed 80km/h
  • Giles Road, Seaham — current speed 100km/h, new speed 60km/h

Historically, NSW operated a simple system of urban and rural default speed limits of 50km/h and 100km/h respectively. RMS has changed speed limits over time to reflect driving conditions and improve road safety.

The new speed limits will be imposed from 16 September 2019.
