'Red tide' at Port Stephens beaches

A 'red tide' identified as Noctiluca scintillans is currently affecting beaches from Port Stephens to the Central Coast.

The algal bloom is non-toxic however we don't recommend swimming in it as it can cause skin irritation.

The bloom may be around for a few weeks and can move with the tide.
