Culturally Informed cool burn demonstration

You’re invited to learn about the benefits of  'culturally informed cool burns' and how they improve Koala habitats, re-establish appropriate fire regimes and reduce the risk and impact of wildfires.

Commencing at 9.30am with a Welcome to Country, join us for an inspection tour of the Mallabula burn site (including a ‘demonstration burn’ weather permitting).

Led by Whitney Ridgeway (pictured) an experienced fire practitioner from Hunter Local land Services, we'll explore the changes and benefits that have occurred since the culturally informed Cool Burns were completed.

Afterwards, we'll return for refreshments (with lunch supplied) to listen and learn about natural resources (food and medicines), cultural burning and what is happening in Port Stephens to support Koala conservation.

Please note
A moderate level of fitness is required for walking on uneven and inclined surfaces, so wear enclosed footwear: long pants, sunscreen, and bring a hat and water bottle (and raincoat or umbrella if raining).

This project is a collaboration between Port Stephens Council, Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council and Hunter Local Land Services with secured grant funding from the NSW Government through the Environmental Trust.
